Fun Afternoon of Kilikiti

Hello, today we played Kilikiti a sport with similar rules to Cricket orginating in Samoa. Kiliti is for all ages and can have from 10-20 players, it's a family friendly game for everyone to play. The main rules are you must hold the kilikiti bat with both hands at all times, no stepping off the pitch and if you aren't recieving the ball your kilikiti bat must be on your shoulder.

Overall we all enjoyed the game and we didn't want to stop, hopefully you can try the game one time and see if you like it.

Wear your Mask!

Hello, today was my first day back at school since the Prime Minister announced us moving into Level 4 Lockdown. I was nervous to come back but I did, I made a poster informing people to wear their mask when they come to School. I really like this poster it explains what to do and what it does compared to if you didn't have a mask. Maybe next time I will try design something like this instead of using a template. Hopefully you like this it didn't take too long I used a website called Canvas, they give you templates to use.

It's a simple clear message to Students and Teachers to wear a mask.

Jack and the Beanstalk & Covid-19 Media

Hello, today in our google meet session Phil joined and we were shown a poster about Covid-19 testing and we were told to explain where you could find this type of media. We came up with a few different ideas like TV adverts, Billboards, Youtube adverts, Radio/Podcasts, Posters, etc. We all disccused about the purpose of the this form of propaganda and who we think designed and made this media for the general public. I stated that it maybe the Health Department who designed the Covid-19 testing media to spread the message to as many people across the country as possible so they would recieve the message. This form of media not only pursuades the public to get tested if they show symptoms of Coronavirus but also to educate them.

Jack and the Beanstalk

After we had a brainstorm and had our discussion based on Covid-19 Media we moved onto the Book Jack and the Beanstalk. We read the book (if you don't know about the story here Jack and the Beanstalk ) moving on we were given a group of questions like, why did the author portray the Giant as angry and grumpy. Was there a reason the Giant had a bad relationship with humans? well that's for you to find out yourself!

Alternative ending ( 100 WORDS CHALLENGE!! )

The Poor substandard Jack conqured his way up the Magical Beanstalk collecting gold coins to provide comfort and stable shelter for his frail old mother. Jack  procceded to grab what he needed, Jack was a kind and thoughtful little boy. He took what he needed and left the rest as his faith in humanity. He used to gold coins to help out his mother and those before him. Once he grew older he lived a peaceful and happy old life with his wife and 3 kids on their mothers farm. Jack grew up a hero giving back to the community.

Media Consumption Per Week

Hello today we filled out a form regarding Media Consumption, we use media everywhere we go and sometimes we don't realise we are consuming quite a lot. We filled out a form that was given to us which had questions like "How much time do you spend watching netflix weekly" it had answers like less than an hour, 2-5 hours, more than 5 hours etc. We then had a look at the form results and were suprised by some of them and it makes you realise how much time people actually consume media.

Have a look at the results from some of the questions and comment what you think about it and if you can relate to the majority of some of the results.

It appears people perfer digital and online media for reasons like easier to access. But when you really look at some of them you start to think about how much time you are spending and feeding on all the media. (The last graph "signs" is referring to adverts and billboards)

I hope you found the data interesting to see and I will post more soon! stay safe and hope you have a good first week of school.

Probability Lockdown Work

Today in our google meet we were talking about Probability and chance. So we had a tally chart and we flicked a heads or tail coin to see who won the coin toss. I was heads and my friend David was tails. We were tossing the coin until we had done it 20 times. I got 12 and david got 8, we recorded this data to see the difference and see why did heads appear more often.

Thank you and blog you later.

Tennis Report

How have the rules of tennis changed?

Tennis is a huge sport these days and the rules of Tennis have changed over time. The new rules of Tennis have dramatically changed and made Tennis gameplay better. The rules are Implied for the safety of the players.

Some rules are good and other I think otherwise. We head back to 1873, Walter Wingfield created the sport Lawn Tennis. The rules were simple and not as complex as the current rules. One rule I strongly agree with would be keeping the ball in bounds of the certain court. To make gameplay a lot more fun of trying to keep it in the white lines. Another thing in Tennis that made a huge impact is the raquet. The raquetis an oval shaped bat that you use to whack the ball to the opposing plyer. Before hand players would use the palm of their hand to pass the ball to the other person. The advantage of the raquet would be length of the handle gives you more range to hit the ball and more control as you can hit the ball with both sides of the raquet. I like the current rule of bouncing the ball before serving because you can time your hit and get more power when you hit it. I found that the previous rule is you could throw it and serve it.

In conclusion of my question, I believe that the rules of tennis have changed for the safety of the Players and to make the gameplay of Tennis more entertaining.

I hope this report was interesting and you learnt some new things!

Miraitowa The Tokyo Olympic Mascot!

Hello today I have a DLO on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Mascot Miraitowa. I will not be talking about Someity in this blog post which is the other mascot of this current olympic.

Miraitowa is the Mascot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It was designed by the Artist Ryo Taniguchi after 2,042 applications were submitted for approval. The Tokyo Organising Committee reviewed each design and picked the top 3 for elementary Japanese students to decide the winner.

Miraitowa has the ability to teleport to places instantly. Miraitowa’s name has the combination of Japanese words meaning “Future” (Mirai) “Eternity” (Towa). Miraitowa represents the Tokyo Olympics will lead to the future of everlasting hope in the hearts of the world.

The patterns on the robot are similar to the Ichimatsu pattern it also represents

the culture of Japan with it being also a Samurai helmet.

I hope you got some understanding behind Miratowa and some interesting facts

about the mascot.

Toolkits 2021

Today I presented me and Gammado's Tinkercad presentation at the 2021 Ako Hiko Toolkits. Held at Owairaka District School. I presented the Tinkercad presentation in Room 7, we started off by introducing ourselves and what our toolkit is really about. We explained the basic shapes on tinkercad and the library and basic mechanics of it as well. We challenged the audience to build a house of their own choice with 20 minutes on the clock. After those 20 minutes we finished up with a Q&A  and then we ended the presentation.

We had a lunch break then we chose a workshop that we wanted to attend and we went there. We chose Minecraft Coding and Word Art, for the word art we went back to Room 7 and we sat down waiting for the presentation to begin. We went on this website called wordart.com and we made our word art with our names and what we like.

And then we went to our last workshop which was Minecraft Coding. They showed us the link to the coding website and we chose our journey in water or on land. I chose the water voyage and it is a strategy coding game where you use commands to move your character spaces. We had 12 levels to complete and I completed 10 out of 12. We got a certificate from completing 8 out of 12.

Thank you to all who presented and who organised the event. Blog you later!!

Tinkercad Rocket Fins Design Write!

I chose the elliptical fin for my rocket design because I researched the most aerodynamic fin and the results were the elliptical fin design. Since the curved shape of the fins causes the air to flow around the fin. So Mr Walker printed out 4 copies of my fin. I make the end of the elliptical fin a square shaped (T) to slot in under the plastic brace.

WW1 Group Reading

                                                               Trench Warfare Synthesis

Video Links: Trench Warfare Trench Warfare 2

Texts: Gilbert Williams William Charles Davis

This past week we have been reading 2 texts and 2 videos over ww1 and summarising, predicting, questioning and clarifying.

The life in the trenches was very stressful and depressing. The trenches were very crap, it was muddy and bloody. Soldiers being scared to death from all the rapid fire from enemy lines. The sleep schedule of 3 hours for the regular soldier was tiring.

Trenches weren't made to be long term so the trenches weren't very comfortable because it was muddy and full of diseases. There was also many shattered bones, dead body's and blood everywhere because of this soldiers starting producing bad mindset for example they thought when they were gonna instead of if they were gonna die. They found the trenches very boring because they had to sit around for hours on end just waiting.
